Even more exciting than ripping open the retro yellow package to find a delicious cup candy is opening a pack of any Boyer treat to find Boyer Play Money! Play Money comes in values ranging from 5 to 500 points, which can be saved and used towards a plethora of awesome Boyer Candy prizes, and even a cash rebate.playmoney-left-large

Once a Boyer fan saves 500 points, they can then send their coin cards to Boyer Candy and be rewarded with the option of choosing several different prizes found in the Boyer Play Money Catalog. In the early days, customers would be able to trade in saved Play Money for a box of candy, but eventually the prize was a Marty Mallo Check redeemable for $1.00. In the late 80s, the program expanded to include other Boyer prizes like hats, tins of candy, watches, figurines, and so much more.

Because of our loyal fans, the Boyer Play Money Program is alive and strong. So start eating and saving today!

The Brief History of Marshmallows

History of Marshmallows

It’s gooey, sugary, and downright delicious, so much so that it’s the star of our famous Mallo Cup candy! We know how much you love the delicious crave-worthy taste of delicious marshmallows, but how much do you know about the marshmallow? We’re proud to present to you, “The Brief History of Marshmallows.”

  • Marshmallows come from the sweet sap of the mallow plant.
  • Mallow plants grow in salty marshes near large bodies of water and can grow to be 4 feet high.
  • Ancient Egyptians used the mallow root for making candied delicacies to appease their gods, nobility, and pharaohs.
  • Ancient Egyptian marshmallows were a mixture of mallow sap, honey, grains and then baked into cakes.
  • The ancient Greeks believed mallow sap cured sore throats and pains.
  • The French began using the mallow plant as a confectionary ingredient in the 1800s.
  • The French discovered that cooking and whipping marshmallow sap with egg whites and corn syrup created a moldable substance that became the marshmallow we know and love today.
  • In the 1900s marshmallows were being sold as penny candies in tiny tins. It was around this time that the Boyer Brothers started experimenting with marshmallow and created the world’s beloved Mallo Cup!

Boyer Candy Goodie Spotlight

In 1936, the Boyer Brothers made candy history by creating the very first cup candy in the United States. Throughout the years a lot has changed at Boyer Candy, except for our passion to create the world’s most delicious gluten free candy.
